Overview. The only place in Uganda to track wild rhinos on foot, this 70-square-kilometre sanctuary delivers a thrilling close encounter on the way to Murchison Falls.

1 - Day Itinerary
DAY - 1
Rhino tracking excursion
Pick up from Kampala city or the place of convenience by your driver guide, who will brief you about the day ´s activity and head to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, home to the only wild rhinos in Uganda. The sanctuary was created to reintroduce rhinos in to the country which have been extinct since 1982. Upon reaching the sanctuary, your guide will do the paper work and followed by the general briefing by the ranger guide. Together with the guide you will track the rhinos and observe them in their natural habitat at very close and safe distance. As you drive to the rhinos, you get sight of other wild animals like, Zebras, Giraffes, Bush back, Uganda Kob, Leopard on lucky day warthog and many bird species. After this activity you will return the office and have lunch before continuing with the return journey to Kampala drop of at your hotel or place of convenience.
- 9:00am. Arrive at the sanctuary for registration and a ranger briefing.
- 9:30am. Set out on foot to track wild southern white rhinos with armed guides.
- 11:30am. Return for refreshments and a short rest.
- 12:00pm. Paddle the Lugogo Swamp by canoe in search of the shoebill stork.
- 2:00pm. Lunch at the on-site lodge.
- 3:00pm. Join a guided nature and bird walk across the grasslands.
- 4:30pm. Free time to relax or revisit the viewing areas.
- 6:00pm. Excursion ends.
