The Rwenzori mountain has a combination of beautiful peaks, glaciers, rivers, lakes and various animal and plant species many of which are a rare and threatened. The Rwenzori mountain is the third highest in Africa. The mountain is a very attractive destination for tourist. The mountain offers professional mountaineer full satisfaction because of the stratified vegetation zones from tropical to temperate and a fro alpine, glaciers and snow at the Equator. The Rwenzori mountain can be accessed from Kampala via mubende- fortportal road to kasese 375 km and from Kampala via masaka - mbarara road to kasese 450 km. Air transport can also be arranged from Entebbe international airport to Kasese air strip.There are three routes that ascend the Rwenzori mountain. The Kilembe route operated by Rwenzori trekking services which takes 9 days expendition to the summit mount Stanley and shorter one, 6 days option but equally scenic. The Nyakalengija based Rwenzori mountaineering services runs the central circuit which reaches and return from mountain Stanley in 7 days. The Bukungu trail ascends from Kitumba to mountain Gessi The mountain is based climbed during the drier months of January and june to july.
