ABOUT PACKAGE
Mount Elgon sits by the Kenyan border and is the shell of an ancient volcano. The main attractions here are the waterfalls and caves that were once used by indigenous people, hot springs, the mountainous vegetation, the various peaks, the Suam Gorge and the caldera itself. After million years of erosion, the oval shaped caldera now measures roughly 7-8 km, one of the largest in the world.The park is home to over 300 bird species.

FULL ITINERARY 5 days 4 nights
DAY - 1
Kampala – Mbale (Mt Elgon
Pick up from your hotel early morning and depart for eastern Uganda, stop-over in Mbale town for lunch before proceeding to Budadiri visitor centre, register at the office before checking in at a nearby Centre lodge B & B
DAY - 2
Hiking Starts (Sasa Trail)
This route starts at Budadiri and is the most easily accessible it provides the most direct route to Wagagai peak. After an early breakfast the driver will drive you to Bumasola where you will start your mountain hike using the Sasa trail. The first walk is through community gardens with lots of cabbages, passion fruits, tomatoes, sweet potatoes and bananas and will take you almost one and half hours to the boundary. From the boundary you will walk some distance and come to the wall of death after which you will hike up and down several hills where the climb is over 1600m before coming up to Sasa River where you will camp for the night.
DAY - 3
Sasa Rivers – Mude Cave Camp
Leave Sasa River camp after breakfast and hike up and down through several areas of vegetation including the bamboo zone (largest area of bamboo forest in the park). Hike past the Sasa patrol hut, the hike becomes flat and you will begin to see the beautiful flowers, Giant Lobelias & the temperature becomes cooler. Follow the easy hike up to Mude cave camp where you will have your overnight.
DAY - 4
Wagagai Peak
From Mude Camp you will hike to the highest point, Wagagai peak through the Jackson’s pool and at late afternoon return to Mude camp for over night.
DAY - 5
Mude Camp – Visitor Centre
Descend from Mude camp to Bumasola where you will meet the driver who will transfer you back to your Kampala hotel or airport for you’re out ward flight back home.
